Let's Choose Our Series

We only received one additional suggestion (Inheritance) so I've supplemented the options with one of my own (Abhorsen) and one that was suggested before (His Dark Materials).  Cast your vote on the blog poll by Friday at 5:00 and we'll announce the winner and pick our meeting date.

Next Meeting's Book

Hello Bookworms,

We decided at our last meeting to skip December and have our next meeting at the beginning of January, shortly after school starts up again.  There were also a couple suggestions put forward for Fantasy, but it occurred to me after the meeting that we just read Fantasy in October, so if anyone has a non-Fantasy recommendation they'd like to make, let's allow that.  Since we have the holidays to read we discussed doing a series for or next meeting, so if you would like to recommend a series feel free!  The recommendations made at the last meeting were both series: Mercedes Lackey's Five Hundred Kingdoms trilogy (The Fairy Godmother, One Good Knight, and Fortune's Fool) and Tamora Pierce's Song of the Lioness quartet (Alanna: the First Adventure, In the Hands of the Goddess, The Woman Who Rides Like a Man, and Lioness Rampant).

Email us your suggestions by Tuesday night at 5:00 and we'll set up a poll.

Map of Panem

Stephanie found this interesting Map of Panem (the futuristic North America in which The Hunger Games is set) that a fan has devised based on clues from the book.  It's not quite what I had pictured, but it's interesting none the less.  It's also entertaining to see what's become of Canada!

Thanks for sharing, Steph!

Meeting Room

UCU 215 has been booked for our meeting this Sunday. That's the room where we had our Game of Thrones meeting, it's off a little hallway labelled 215 that's in the corner of the square where all the student service centers and 1848 are located. We'll hope to see you there for some Hunger Games fun!

The Hunger Games

Thank you for voting everyone, we actually got a clear winner: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.  Happy reading, and check the blog the week before our meeting for the room location.

Let's Choose a Book

Ok, our next meeting will be on Sunday November 27th at 11:30am.

No one emailed additional book suggestions, which is actually a good thing because we already have 6 suggestions, and only 7 people voted in the last poll...

So vote for your favourite book by Sunday at 11:00pm so that we can start reading asap!

Children's Literature; Let's Pick a Date

I've failed you again, Bookworms.  At our last meeting those who attended were kind enough to furnish us with several suggestions for our children's lit theme, which I entered into my phone.  I have somehow lost this virtual note, so we're going to pick our meeting date first to give those people who made suggestions a chance to resuggest them.  Here are the ones I remember, and those submitted by email, if yours isn't among them, please email it to us by Saturday at 10am: Anne of Green Gables, Star Girl, The Golden Compass, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and The Hunger Games.

In regards to the meeting date, a couple people have mentioned that they can't make it to Sunday meetings, so we're offering a Monday option for November.  Vote using the blog poll by Saturday morning at 10, and we'll get back on track with picking our book!
