Please vote for a meeting date and time!

Hi Bookworms!

I hope you are all enjoying this month's selection so far.  Stephanie said she literally could not put it down.  I consider myself warned - I'm saving it for after my midterm so that I won't be distracted from studying!  Also, if you haven't found a copy yet, the book is still 20% off at Perfect Books (Elgin and Somerset, maybe a 10 minute walk from campus) until Thursday.

The poll for the meeting date and time is now available.  The scheduling is a bit complicated this month because of Reading Week so we've included a lot of different options.  There are choices for the week before and the week after Reading Week in light of midterms, travel plans, etc.

Please note that Feb 16-17 is the first weekend of Reading Week.  If you are going to be out of town that weekend, please don't vote for it!

The poll closes this Friday, Feb 1 at midnight.  Vote away!

“the right book exactly, at exactly the right time” - Robin Sloan

Well Bookworms, you have chosen Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore as our next book. Excellent choice! (Secret confession: I anticipated it would win, bought it this morning preemptively, and haven't put it down since.)

Since it's the monthly feature at Perfect Books (258 Elgin Street, close to campus) the book is 20% off there if you want to endorse a local independent  bookstore. It's also available at Chapters.

Howdy Partners!

Sadly, Modern Westerns did not make the cut this month (nor did Science-Fiction).

Our winner is "Books About Books"!!! Take a gander at the poll and choose which book you want to read this month. Links to pages about the books are under the "This Month's Meeting" tab. Y'all come back now and vote before Saturday at midnight (otherwise next meeting we will all talk like cowboys).

Moving on to the next month

Hey Bookworms!
Great meeting today, thanks to everyone that came (old and new faces)! We are glad to hear about all the reading everybody is doing. After all the suggestions today the poll for the genre is now up. Vote before Wednesday night and email us any more suggestions you have that we didn't write down for books in these genres.

Sunday's meeting in new room!

Hey Bookworms!  We just wanted to let you know that Sunday's meeting will be in UCU207 - it's a different room.  It's just down the hall from the Tim Horton's in the university centre, we think...

We hope to see you this Sunday, Jan 20 @2PM in UCU207.  You bring genre and book suggestions, and we'll bring the food!

Hobbit movie night on Friday + next meeting poll

Hi Bookworms!  We hope your first day back wasn't too rough!

It looks like our field trip will be taking place this Friday night.  We'll meet at the Rideau Centre, just outside the theatre, at 4PM.  The theatres, if you haven't been there before, are on the top floor of the mall and there's a staircase to them near the American Eagle and the Sephora.  We'll meet right at the top of the stairs at 4.  If you suspect you're going to be late, send us an email and we can save you a seat.

We'd also like to meet next week for our discussion of Divergent/ Insurgent.  A poll is up now for the meeting date and time.  Please vote by Thursday at 5PM.

Good luck for this first week back!  See you Friday night.

Field Trip to see The Hobbit

Happy New Year! To ring in the new year and new semester we are going to go see The Hobbit this first week back from the holidays. We will go to the Empire Theatre in the Rideau Centre. The showing are at 4:30 and 8:15 pm each day. Please vote as to which day and time you want to go see the movie. Note the 8:15 showing is in 3D and keep in mind the movie is 2h 46m long.

Voting will close Monday (January 7) afternoon at 5pm.

We will be posting soon about voting for a date/time to meet about Divergent / Insurgent.
